This was banking in the 1970s
Issue 270 | 21 February 2022
In this edition of Payments:Unpacked Payments Past we feature an insight into banking in the 1970s - you’ll notice the still current themes of automation, cash distribution and the move to electronic payments.
You’ll also see electric vans ferrying cheques into the Lombard Street clearing centre, payment systems being settled manually, an early Bacs computer hall and the (in)famous ‘Managers Refer List’.
I remember doing some of the junior bank clerk tasks a decade later during my school work experience at Lloyds Bank.
