3 facts and 2 questions
Each week over at Northey Point we use the ATM data published by LINK to track the UK’s changing use of cash- you’ll find our latest tracker here: ATM tracker.
In this edition of Payments:Unpacked we have picked out three facts from our latest tracker - we are also keen to find out the extent to which our newsletter readers use cash in their day to day life.
It’s the first time we’ve run a poll so please take 30 seconds to answer two questions.
Let’s start with three cash facts:
Fact 1: Last week the volume of ATM Transactions decreased by 23% when compared to the final week before the first COVID lockdown.
Fact 2: The volume of ATM transactions in 2022 is likely to remain above those for the equivalent weeks in 2020 until the end of July when the ‘Eat out to help out’ scheme boosted trading in 2020 after the first Lockdown. The weekly number of ATM transactions for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 are expected to merge from that time.
Fact 3: The last three years daily ATM withdrawal values are now almost identical following the lifting of the restrictions in 2021 and 2020.
And now for two questions:
Question 1: When did you last use cash? (Choose one option)
Question 2: How do you expect your use of cash to change over the next twelve months?
Thank you for answering these two questions!
We’ll publish the results in a future edition of Payments:Unpacked.
