Faster prizes. Fewer cheques. Less friction.
Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, has introduced direct-to-bank payments for in-store prizes between £500.01 and £50,000 — replacing the slow, paper-based cheque process.
In partnership with Bottomline, Allwyn has launched a streamlined online claims journey that enables winners to receive funds directly into their bank accounts within 24 hours of approval.
The move follows the Post Office’s withdrawal from paying mid-tier prizes. Since taking over in 2024, Allwyn has already paid more than 45,000 such prizes — over £50 million — while progressively modernising the claims process.
The new default is bank transfer - the direction of travel is clear: faster settlement, automated account name checks, reduced manual handling, and significantly lower postage and administration costs.
Eliminating thousands of cheques doesn’t just accelerate payments to winners — it cuts operational overhead. That efficiency means more money flowing to National Lottery-funded Good Causes instead of into envelopes and stamps.
For players, the experience is simple: submit a claim online, upload a ticket image, verify bank details via secure link, and get paid — quickly.
Less paper. Less delay. More impact.
